Great News - The team is very excited about creating this new site so that we can share and preserve the history of a great year in Ray football history that ended with us winning one of the most prestigious titles in Texas high school football - the 1959 AAAA Football Championship.

The team would like to thank all our parents for having the foresight to have saved all the articles, pictures and memorabilia from the 59 season – they made this site possible.

We tried to scan the articles and pictures, but they are so old that they have yellowed and don’t scan or copy well. We also contacted the Caller-Times archives and they have the articles from the 1959 season on microfiche. Larry Couser went over and made several copies and the quality was too poor to use. So, we will have to use the scanned pictures and retype all the articles.

"The Peppermint Kids"
Coach Stages was known for making Ray the most colorful team in Texas high school football annals. Coach Stages designed the Texans' uniforms which features red-and-white stripes over the shoulders - this earned us the statewide nickname "The Peppermint Kids". In 1959 we also wore Red shoes, which was unheard of at the time.

That uniform has survived over 50 years and is still worn by the Ray team.

In case you didn't know it, we are celebrating the 50th year of our championship. Our victory is a feat that no other Ray team has accomplished.
